Yang Style Tai Chi
Yang Style Tai Chi is one of the world's most widely practised Chinese martial arts. Known for its slow, flowing movements and emphasis on relaxation, balance, and coordination, it offers a unique form of exercise that benefits both body and mind.
Whether you are looking to improve your mobility, reduce stress, increase confidence, or simply enjoy learning a traditional martial art, Tai Chi is suitable for people of all ages and abilities.
A Traditional Martial Art
Although many people discover Tai Chi through its health benefits, it is first and foremost a Chinese martial art with a rich history. Every movement has a practical purpose, and by understanding the principles behind them, students develop greater body awareness, balance, coordination, and control.
At Wensum Kung Fu & Tai Chi, we teach traditional Yang Style Tai Chi in a way that is clear, enjoyable, and accessible. Our coaching removes the mystery often associated with Tai Chi, helping students understand not only what they are learning, but why.
A Supportive Way to Learn
We believe everyone can learn when they are taught with patience, encouragement, and a structured approach. Whether you're stepping into a class for the first time or returning after a break, you'll be welcomed into a friendly community where you can learn at your own pace.
Our experienced coaches break movements down into manageable stages, allowing students to build confidence and progress steadily without feeling overwhelmed.
What You'll Learn
Beginners are introduced to the fundamental principles of posture, balance, movement, relaxation, and breathing before learning the Yang Style forms. As your confidence grows, you'll continue developing your technique while gaining a deeper understanding of the art.
Alongside the forms, classes may include partner exercises, applications of movement, balance training, and traditional principles that help bring Tai Chi to life.
Benefits of Regular Practice
Students often tell us that regular Tai Chi practice helps them:
Improve balance and coordination
Increase flexibility and mobility
Develop better posture and body awareness
Build strength in a gentle, low-impact way
Improve concentration and mental focus
Reduce stress and promote relaxation
Gain confidence through learning new skills
Like any worthwhile skill, progress comes through regular practice, and every student develops at their own pace.
